Design Challenge
Lerdahl has been a longterm partner of NCBE dating back to 2000, when NCBE
headquarters was relocated from Chicago to Madison. During the transition from an office building in The Loop to a three-story building in downtown Madison, NCBE maintained a seven-person satellite office in a historic railroad car. LBI was retained to assist with interior design and to provide new furnishings for the newly expanded location in Madison. In the fall of 2006, NCBE broke ground on a much larger headquarters building on South Bedford Street. At that time, the NCBE Board determined that several interior design firms should be evaluated – not because they were in any way unhappy with Lerdahl – but rather because they felt it was in their best interest to assess the marketplace. As a result of Lerdahl’s strong working relationship, competitive pricing, and proven solutions, Lerdahl was once again selected as NCBE’s partner for furniture design and specification for their new headquarters.

Because of the size and scope of the project, Lerdahl implemented extensive meeting/project schedules and timelines to lead the NCBE through the furniture specification process, and to ensure all of the deadlines would be met. After taking a fresh look at the architectural fi rm’s initial floor plan, Lerdahl refined the layouts to maximize function and selected furniture that would complement the interior, including workstations, break room, conference room and file room furnishings.
In addition to the new furnishings, Lerdahl provided NCBE with a comprehensive market comparison that allowed NCBE to reuse some of its existing furniture in areas where it could be accommodated, rather than purchasing everything new. NCBE was grateful to Lerdahl for suggesting solutions that incorporated both new and existing furniture. This was also a testament to the fact that Lerdahl had originally provided NCBE with truly longterm, workable solutions and quality products.
